Quandary made by justthefacts71: What kind of gun did I receive from grandfather?
My grandpa gave me old gun before he died -he did not know who made it. He said it was probably not safe to fire – or worth anything either. He thought it came from Africa- has markings that are not English. Gun has a breech that swivels to the right – allows loading the gun. Breech is approx 2 inches long. There is a firing pin angled thru the breech. The hammer is attached to the right side of breech and looks like the old hammers used on Civil War era rifles (which shoot caps). The only markings on the gun in English are “SNIDER” on the breech and “BALI” on side of the barrel. There are many markings on the barrel just in front of breech but not English letters. Also the muzzle ID measures approx 0.570 inch – is this a shotgun? The barrel is not blued and has discolorations like rust but does not rub off on your hands. It appears to have rusted in spots then oiled. The wood stock looks like it has been around the world in the back of a wagon.
So can someone help me ID?
