The Indonesian National Awakening (Indonesian: Kebangkitan Nasional Indonesia) is a term for the period in the first half of the twentieth century, during which people from many parts of the archipelago first began to develop a national consciousness as “Indonesians

In the pursuit of profits and administrative control, the Dutch imposed an authority of the Dutch East Indies on an array of peoples who had not previously shared a unified political identity. By the start of the twentieth century, the Dutch had formed the territorial boundaries of a colonial state that became the precursor to modern Indonesia.

At the start of the twentieth century, the number of secondary educated Indonesians was almost negligible and from this time on, the Ethical Period saw the colonial government expand secondary educational opportunities to indigenous Indonesians.[7] In 1925, the government’s focus shifted to the provision of a widespread three-year elementary vocational education.

The Ethical Period’s emphasis on education did not deliver widespread educational opportunities, however, it did provide a Dutch education for the children of the indigenous Indonesian elite. Largely intended to provide clerical labour for the growing colonial bureaucracy, the Western education brought with it Western political ideas of freedom and democracy. During the 1920s and 30s, this small elite began to articulate a rising anti-colonialism and a national consciousness.

During this period the first Indonesian political parties began to emerge; the youth group, Budi Utomo was established in 1908, and the Indische Partij in 1912. The same year, Sarekat Islam was founded; inspired more by Islamic and Javanese mysticism than notions of independence and self-rule. It brought Indonesians together, using the banner of Islam in opposition to Dutch rule, however, it had not nationalist agenda, and was often more anti-Chinese than anti-Dutch. In contrast, the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI), formed in 1920, was a fully-fledged independence party inspired by European politics. In 1926, it attempted a revolution throughout Indonesia through isolated insurrections across Java that panicked the Dutch, who arrested and exiled thousands of communists, effectively neutralising the PKI for the remainder of the Dutch occupation.

With the coming of World War II, the political fate of the Indies was suddenly obscure. The islands’ Dutch rulers found themselves occupied by Germany in May 1940. Themselves occupied by foreign rulers, the Dutch were in a weak position to guarantee their rule in the Indies. Yet, the colonial government in exile was determined to continue its rule over the archipelago.

In early 1942, Imperial Japan invaded the Dutch East Indies. The Netherlands had little ability to defend its colony against the Japanese army and Dutch forces were over run in little more than a month—a blow that was to end 300 years of Dutch colonial presence in Indonesia. The changes under the subsequent three year occupation were so numerous and extraordinary that the subsequent watershed, the Indonesia Revolution, was possible in a manner unfeasible just three years earlier.

After the Japanese surrendered to the Allies in 1945, the Dutch sought to resume colonial control over the Indies. In these aims, the Dutch obtained the military backing of the British who fought bloody battles on Java to restore Dutch rule. The Indonesian nationalists, despite heavy losses, were not to be deterred. By 1945, an idea of “Indonesia” was seemingly irresistible.

Answer by wolf2

It would be I’m collecting donation for…. then state what the donation are being collected for. For example. I am collection donations for the humane society to help feed the animals. We take money, blankets and food.

Answer by Neil

Collect (donations) ‘FOR’….give (donations) ‘TO’

Answer by neniaf

It depends on the rest of the sentence. If you are going to name the charity, it would be “for”. If you are going to talk about what will be done with the money, it is “to.”

“I’m collecting donations for the Red Cross.”

“I’m collecting donations to help the victims of the tsunami in Indonesia.”

Your second choice is easier. It is almost always, “Would you like to donate to…?” I can’t think of any exceptions.

Answer by wyc

I don’t think it would offend people if you choose your words carefully. We only get offended really when someone comes up to you and goes “you do know smoking is bad for you, don’t you?”, “Then why do you smoke?”, or “that is so gross”. If you keep it to the facts and don’t point a smoker out, then they have no reason to get offended. It’s like telling someone they are fat and they need to get in shape. Telling someone that already knows they have a problem that they have a problem upsets them and it doesn’t help them. If you are addressing smokers and non-smokers alike, then it’s a presentation and it is not personal.

Answer by Ashley

its offending to tell us that we’re gross, fake cough when you walk by, hold your breath and think were too stupid to notice, and point out that we (smokers) are all going to die young and have tar-filled lungs. but that’s just the thing. we dont f*cking care. smokers literally dont care what you have to say about us. we will continue to smoke anyways. hand me my pack please.

Answer by rupee100

Kerala was created rishi Agastya. It was in Satya Yuga. Vamana apeared in Satya Yuga. Parshurama was in later Treta Yuga.

I hope it helps.

Answer by C. Sri Vidya Rajagopalan

The present Kerala was an integral part of Bharat Khand in Jambu Dweep even before Maha bali and Parasurama.

Under the ruler Maha bali:

Balichakravarthi (Bali, The Emperor) or Mahabali, was the grandson of Prahlad. Kerala was the capital for him.

As he was pushed down into Patala, King Bali made a last request. He requested that he be allowed to visit Kerala once in a year to ensure that his people were still happy, well fed and content. Lord Vishnu was pleased to grant Mahabali his wish.

Thus Onam celebrates the visit of King Mahabali, a king of ancient Dravida to the state of Kerala every year. The festival is celebrated with fervour as King Mahabali is greatly respected by his subjects. Mahabali is also popularly called Maveli and Onathappan. He is believed to have ruled in South India before the Ramayana event and his empire is believed to have extended from the Vindhyas in the north to the far out in the south. His rule was considered as the golden era of Kerala.

The Srimad Bhagavatam reads “He [Vishnu] will take the kingdom away from Purandara [Lord Indra] and give it to Bali Maharaja.”

The Bhavishyottara Purana reads that a king should pay respect to King Bali, “the future Indra”.

The celebration of Onam resounds and chants the following song all over Kerala:

‘ When Maveli, our King, ruled the land,

All the people were as One.

And people live joyful and merry;

They were all free from harm.

There was neither anxiety nor sickness,

Death of the children were never even heard of,

There were no lies,

There is neither theft nor deceit,

And no one is false in speech either.

Measures and weights were right;

No one cheated or wronged their neighbour.

When Maveli, our King, ruled the land,

All the peoples formed one casteless race.’

Afterwards probably sea engulfed both Kerala and Konkan.

Parasurama fought the advancing ocean back thus saving the lands of Konkan and Malabar (Maharashtra – Karnataka – Kerala coastline). The coastal area of Kerala state along with the Konkan region, i.e., coastal Maharashtra and Karnataka, is known as Parashurama Kshetra (Parashurama’s area). Some say it extends all the way to Mumbai in Maharashtra.

Parasurama threw his battle axe into the sea. As a result, the land arose and was reclaimed from the waters.

Answer by ☼Rob☼

well here’s SOME of them…

By Peter Baker and Susan B. Glasser

Washington Post Staff Writers

Friday, October 7, 2005

The United States and its allies have thwarted at least 10 serious al Qaeda terrorist plots since Sept. 11, 2001, including never-before-disclosed plans to use hijacked commercial airliners to attack the East and West coasts in 2002 and 2003, President Bush and his aides said yesterday.

The reported plots aimed to strike a wide variety of targets, including the Library Tower in Los Angeles, ships in international waters and a tourist site overseas, the White House said last night. Three of the 10 were directed at U.S. soil, officials said. The government, they added, also stopped five al Qaeda efforts to case possible targets or infiltrate operatives into the country.

Most of the plots were previously reported in some form; a few were revealed yesterday. The White House had never before placed a number or compiled a public list of the foiled attempts to follow up the Sept. 11 attacks, but it offered scant information beyond the location and general date of each reported plot — making it difficult to assess last night how serious or advanced they were or what role the government played in preventing them.

Bush cited the disrupted plans in a speech yesterday intended to shore up sagging public support for the war in Iraq and address more extensively than ever before the philosophical framework undergirding Islamic extremism. The radical movement, he said, goes beyond “isolated acts of madness,” animated by a coherent philosophy akin to Soviet Communism and Nazi fascism with the goal to “establish a radical Islamic empire that spans from Spain to Indonesia.”

“While the killers choose their victims indiscriminately, their attacks serve a clear and focused ideology, a set of beliefs and goals that are evil but not insane,” the president said. The disruption of some plots, he said, means that “the enemy is wounded but the enemy is still capable of global operations.”

Bush singled out Syria and Iran for condemnation, calling them “allies of convenience” of Islamic radicals “with a long history of collaboration with terrorists” and saying they “deserve no patience from the victims of terror.” He rebuffed calls to withdraw from Iraq, dismissing the “dangerous illusion” that pulling out would make the United States safer. And he rejected the argument that the Iraq war has only fostered terrorism, a position taken even by some in government.

The 40-minute address to the National Endowment for Democracy outlined no new strategy for the nation’s four-year-old battle with al Qaeda but inserted Bush directly into the underlying war of ideas, as many security specialists have been urging for some time. In the past few years he has avoided personalizing the conflict for fear of building up terrorist leaders, but yesterday he talked repeatedly and in unusually personal terms about Osama bin Laden and Abu Musab Zarqawi, the leader of the insurgency in Iraq.

Bin Laden, Bush said, deludes his followers into becoming suicide bombers. “He assures them that . . . this is the road to paradise — though he never offers to go along for the ride,” Bush said.

The president likewise quoted Zarqawi calling Americans “the most cowardly of God’s creatures” and offered a direct rebuttal. “Let’s be clear,” he said. “It is cowardice that seeks to kill children and the elderly with car bombs and cuts the throat of a bound captive and targets worshipers leaving a mosque.”

In the speech, Bush cited the numbers of disrupted plots and casings without giving details, and at first White House spokesmen were unable to document them. After scrambling all day and debating how much could be disclosed in response to media inquiries, the White House produced a list last night.

The three plots targeting U.S. territory included the well-known case of Jose Padilla, who was arrested after he allegedly explored a possible radiological “dirty bomb” attack, and two plans to use hijacked planes to attack the West Coast in mid-2002 and the East Coast in mid-2003. The White House document gave no further details about the timing or targets of the latter two.

Two sources familiar with intelligence information said the West Coast plot targeted the tallest building in Los Angeles, since renamed the US Bank Tower, and involved Malaysian militants and Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, who was captured in 2003. Previous reports on Mohammed’s interrogations in custody said that before Sept. 11 he mapped out an attack on the tower that was later aborted.

What are some Hindu stories?

Problem basically by Poker Face Epitome: What are some Hindu stories?

just wondering and if you know some please tell me.

That is certainly top tips on What are some Hindu stories? possibly should try to clear up concerns ourselves. Hopefully this will help to in many ways; and to make the way you live greater. Thinking top tips on What are some Hindu stories? may very well be a simple solution someday.

Solution:

Answer by Ayouda Maho

The great devotee, Prahlad had a grandson and his name was Bali Raja. Once, Bali Raja performed a yagna with his guru, Shukracharya. Pleased with the yagna, the devas (gods) became pleased with him and gave him a divine chariot, an endless supply of arrows and an impenetrable shield. With all these powers and strength, he attacked Devnagri, the city of devas! When they were attacked, the devas ran away from their home.

Aditi, the mother of the devas, pleaded to her husband, “Our sons have become very unhappy, so would you please show them how to acquire wealth, fame and their positions back?” Her husband calmly told her, “Surrender to God and pray to Him because God accepts poor people’s devotion like none else.

” After hearing her husband’s words, Aditi fasted for 12 straight days only surviving on water. God gave her a boon and she gave birth to Vaman, an incarnation of Vishnu, on Bhadarva Sud 12. Vaman was born as a midget. Vaman Bhagwan arrived to the banks of Narmada to meet Bali Raja. Vaman Bhagwan’s aim was to give the devas back their city.

Bali was performing an Ashwamedh yagna when Vaman came to meet him. Everyone saw Vaman and honoured him. He was a bright young celibate who caught the attention of even Bali. Bali asked him, “Ask for anything from me, young celibate, and it shall be granted to you.” At the time, Vaman only had an umbrella, walking stick and a water pot. He told Bali, “Oh King of Demons, all I need is a little bit of land. I want three steps and anywhere I step, give me that land.”

Bali mocked him and said, “Little one, you are too simple. What good would three steps do you? You must ask for more land that will benefit you and let you live a happy life.” But Vaman replied, “One who is satisfied in God’s wish is happy and fulfilled. One who has no control over his senses cannot be satisfied with even the whole universe.”

Bali was very pleased with this humility and decided to grant him his wish. As soon as Shukracharya heard this, he came running to Bali. Shukracharya warned him that Vaman was an incarnation of Vishnu and therefore Bali should not grant him his wish. But Bali Raja was a man of his word and would grant Vaman’s wish.

Suddenly Vaman became very huge like a giant! With the first step Vaman covered the whole earth. Everyone was shocked! In his next step he took the whole universe. for his last remaining step, he asked Bali where he should step because there was nowhere else to step. Bali then, with utmost humility, offered his head the third step. Vaman was very pleased with Bali Raja’s devotion and offered him a boon. He promised Bali Raja that he would guard his gates forever.

Some heroin detoxification What’s the alternative?

Question from stoopid6: What are some heroin detox alternatives?

I have a friend that is addicted and wants to detox but he works and cannot go into a hospital to detox. He has tried cold turkey and cannot do that either. He previously was in a methadone program but doesn’t want to go back there because they keep the addicts on methadone for a very long time. Sometimes more than a year. I’ve heard there is a drug he could take for a few days that will take away the withdrawal symptoms but I don’t know the name or where he would go to get it.

Please help me help him. Thanks.

This can be tips about What are some heroin detox alternatives? that you might might want to resolve dilemmas without any help. Answer by NA

Contact Narcotics Anonymous. This is a free service organization that can help your friend. A specific medical treatment requires medical attention and probably several weeks or months of treatment in an adequate facility for heroin or drug withdrawal. Sorry to be blunt, but it will be a hellish few weeks. Of course the alternative–continue using an illegal, addictive and life-threatening substance–may result in death, permanent mental or physical impairment or jail. I am glad that the person who is using has decided to quit. IT IS POSSIBLE, but it will be hard work.

Answer by joe m

Most junkies don’t come to this site–I do,the drug will not stop heroin use , but if tried he will wish he was dead–and will only do it once.

SUBOXONE—clean for 15 yrs

Answer by parkermbg

joe and NA have given excellent answers. Sometimes the most effective way is to go old school! Do the shake n bake for 5 days or so, (take sick leave if you can) and you’ll remember how much your bones ached when the temptation to use comes back.

See your doctor and tell them what you plan to do, they can educate you and family for what warning signs to watch for and how to deal with things like siezures.

Oh yeah, its always best to have somebody to check on you constantly when you kick. Thats why medical detox programs are so lucrative. Go to N.A. Meetings first, you might find alot of support to stand by you during very trying times!

Answer by spnkysparky

NO NO NO NO!!! do not advise using any detox drugs like suboxone, methadone, etc…They are even WORSE to come off of.I know the feeling of withdrawals and still having to work.I HIGHLY reccomend a wonderful herb called KRATOM…there are many strains but I would use “BALI” other than any other strains….Just do a search on it and you will see alot of info.Doses depend on person and habit.I had a 15 pills a day habit of hydrocodone (about 112 to 125mgs a day)and I started with 1 teaspoon and worked up.Some kratom from different vendors are better quality and less is needed. Its hard to find a good quality “BALI” right now, though it is getting better.Kratom has its down side to.It to can be addicting but its withdrawals are way less .Read what I wrote about my friend who was pregnant at this link.If you need any more info on what to do,email me at joshvaldez@msn.com Also one of the links I posted the

Thought to be able this assists in several ways; and then make yourself much better. Needing concerning What events lead to the East Timor genocide? will be the most effective results from now on.

Best answer:

Answer by Ted H

I googled “events leading to East Timor genocide” and this is the first entry. Hard to believe you took an hour in a search. Anyway, here’s the article:

“East Timor came under Dutch influence in the early sixteenth century, but the official division of the island was only concluded finally in 1913, when East Timor was recognized fully as a Portuguese colony and West Timor was assigned to Dutch colonial rule. The latter territory was incorporated into the Republic of Indonesia in 1950. The colonial history of East Timor was characterized by neglect and stagnation, with the majority of East Timorese continuing to live traditional village lives.

During World War II, the island was occupied by the Japanese after a bitter jungle war against a much smaller Allied commando force including an Australian contingent. Scores of East Timorese suffered starvation, torture, rape, forced labor, and other forms of gross human rights violations at the hands of the Japanese as retribution for the widespread support the East Timorese gave to the Allied forces. Following World War II, the island reverted to Portuguese colonial rule. The prospect of independence came after 1974, when the revolution in Portugal opened the way to the decolonization of its overseas empire. A split in the coalition of the two major parties that emerged in East Timor, widely regarded as the result of Indonesian subversion, led to civil war, with Fretilin (East Timorese Front for Independence) rapidly gaining ascendancy over UDT (The Timorese Democratic Union), both militarily and politically. Observers of the time noted that by the end of the civil war, Fretilin had established an effective and just administration over East Timor and that the party had widespread support. Although Portugal was invited to maintain its authority during the period leading to full independence, the colonial power vacillated, and Fretilin then declared independence.

Using the pretext of the civil war–which in fact had already come to an end–Indonesia invaded the territory in December 1975. The well-trained Fretilin army mounted a stiff resistance, and a bloody struggle continued for several years, even though the invaders officially annexed the territory as a province of Indonesia. During the long period of diplomatic deadlock that followed, Falantil (The East Timorese National Liberation Army) continued to wage a guerrilla war against ABRI (Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia).”

I need help finding a support bra.

Dilemma made by Shawna D: I need help finding a supportive bra.?

I wear a 38D in the Bali “Seduction Curves” Underwire Bra. Here it is: http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=240167&PartnerID=FROOGLE&BannerID=PD226

My problem with this bra (and many many others) is that I manage to pop out of the top quite a bit after awhile, so it makes me have the four-boob look. Gross! I’ve been measured as a 38D, so I know that’s my size. I just need better coverage I guess to keep the girls in check. Thanks!

Undoubtedly tips concerning I need help finding a supportive bra.? possibly need to clear up concerns only on their. Subsequently this can help in lots of ways: and formulate your own life far better. Who wish tips concerning I need help finding a supportive bra.? can certainly be a simple solution in time.

Solution:

Answer by emmy_matthews

If you are popping out, then it means the size isn’t right. I know you said you were measured, but that’s just a guideline as sizes can vary between styles. I had a similar problem, and found that the next cup size up worked well, so if you love that style, try either 38E or 40D.

Answer by Mudd14

Well the girls I know just wear a sports bra all the time instead of a regular bra. If you are going on an evening look you will want to wear maybe a different size. I am sorry but this is what I came up with.

Mudd14

Answer by bojanglestothemax

the whole ‘measuring’ thing just gives you a rough guide, it does not tell you what bra to wear. what matters is that it fits you properly, and gives adequate support, not what it says on the label. different brands and even styles with in brands will come up very different sizes under the same ‘name’ ie 38d. your bra needs to do all this http://www.bravissimo.com/info/3Step.aspx

and a tape measure cant tell ur bra fits properly. that site has loads of great supportive bras on it 2

good luck

Answer by Grumpy

I have found that “demi” bras work better for me

they are less triangle shaped and less likely to bind into your boob causing an extra set.

getting measured at say victoria secret will help you with a size for that store but not for other brands you may get at a dept store.

I would say if you really like that bra got o the sotre and try a few sizes on

take a 38DD and 38E

and a 40D and 40DD

one will be better than what you have now

also try a demi bra on-it makes things squish to the middle without any extra boobs

“…Indonesia’s location on the edges of the Pacific, Eurasian, and Australian tectonic plates makes it the site of numerous volcanoes and frequent earthquakes. Indonesia has at least 150 active volcanoes, including Krakatoa and Tambora, both famous for their devastating eruptions in the 19th century. The eruption of the Toba supervolcano, approximately 70,000 years ago, was one of the largest eruptions ever, and a global catastrophe. Recent disasters due to seismic activity include the 2004 tsunami that killed an estimated 167,736 in northern Sumatra, and the Yogyakarta earthquake in 2006. However, volcanic ash is a major contributor to the high agricultural fertility that has historically sustained the high population densities of Java and Bali.”

Does not mean anything, it is the name of a mountain and of a plant.

…..they are probably refering to the plant… it is used in sweet dishes

Answer by shy hermit

It shoud be ‘Pandan’. It’s a type of plant..look like grass.. 40 cm – 1.5 m H & 30 cm – 1 m W.. with long shiny dark green leaves. These leaves are used as a natural food colouring agent (green) or to add a nice sweet aroma to the food/cooking, e.g. steam white rice, and to sweet and sometimes savory dishes too..

I miss it sooooo much… snif. :_(

Answer by LucidDreamer

There was a movie from 1940 called “All Hands” but it didn’t have Martin & Lewis in it. There’s no movie named that in Dean Martin’s filmography.

If it’s out there, Blockbuster can order it for you.

Answer by Stu G

All Hands on Deck (1961) is close in title, but neither Jerry Lewis, nor Dean Martin are in it. That one is Pat Boone, and Buddy Hackett.

The only movies that Dean and Lewis were both in that I could find were:

Pardners (1956)

Artists and Models (1955)

3 Ring Circus (1954)

Living It Up (1954)

The Caddy (1953)

Scared Stiff (1953)

The Stooge (1952)

At War with the Army (1950)

But in almost all of those, Dean has a cameo as a performer.

Answer by rickdarkone

Hollywood or Bust (1956) …. Steve Wiley

Artists and Models (1955) …. Rick Todd

Answer by gemrtz56

It appears your dad is either pulling a mean joke on you or has the stars of the movie or the movie title or both all switched around. I looked in all the films with Martin and Lewis together and the only one from a 9 year was “My Friend Irma” from “49 not “59. The act broke up on a hot summer night at the Copacabana July 24, 1956. There is no movie with Dean and Jerry called “All Hands” from 1959. Sorry to disappoint you. Thanks for the 2 points though.

The majority of people know he is a Chrisitian.

Answer by 8 – ßăļļ

Hopefully not the same as Bush and Cheney since they appear Godless…

Answer by Super Socialist

He has admitted to being raised a Muslim and then converted to Christianity. He currently belongs to a Black Seperatist Church that advocates Communism and claims that Blacks are the chosen people , not the Jews.

Answer by Dick W

His religion is not important. The important question is whether he’s a member of Skull and Bones or some other secret group.

We lend too much credence to who is president. The executive branch is only one out of three. We should be paying more attention to who is elected to the US House of Representatives and the Senate. They are the ones who are supposed to enforce the checks and balances on the executive branch. As you can easily see that is not happening anymore.

Answer by BarB

Most of the people who claim that the Senator is a Muslim and attended a Muslim school do so only because of his name. They are relatively unsophisticated, live in little Podunk towns across American, practice racial bigotry and hatred, are uneducated or undereducated, get their news and information from like-minded friends and relatives. They don’t read quality newspapers or watch quality TV news. They come from a culture where fear and religion are the guiding principles of their lives.

They are unsophisticated, semi-literate, have no understanding of the world outside their 50 mile radius. They judge everyone by their looks, the color of their skin, their name (Any name with more than 4 syllables is considered “foreign”) – and the church they attend – or not attend.

There are generations of people behind them in their small world. Relatively ignorant, fearful, self-righteous. Most can’t find “Indonesia” on a map, much less spell it or know anything about the culture there.

Most have no idea of the politics outside their little Podunk town. They are unable to find the country of Brazil or the District of Columbia or the nation of Thailand on a map. Few know who their state legislators are.

It doesn’t matter WHAT information is put before them – about the Senator or anything else, they will cling to their ignorance. They have no comfort level outside their little circle.

For those who are interested, who want to be informed, who want to learn anything at all, I offer the following information:

From Robert Gibbs, the senator’s spokesman, a statement slams Insight magazine and Fox News for reporting unsubstantiated, false information:

“If (Steve) Doocy or the staff at Fox and Friends had taken to check their facts, or simply made a call to his office, they would have learned that Senator Obama was not educated in a Madrassa, was not raised as a Muslim, and was not raised by his father – an atheist Obama met once in his life before he died.

Mr. Gibbs continued:

All of the claims about Senator Obama’s faith and education raised in the Insight Magazine story and repeated on Fox News are false. Senator Obama was raised in a secular household in Indonesia by his stepfather and mother. Obama’s stepfather worked for a U.S. oil company, and sent his stepson to two years of Catholic school, as well as two years of public school. As Obama described it, “Without the money to go to the international school that most expatriate children attended, I went to local Indonesian schools and ran the streets with the children of farmers, servants, tailors, and clerks.” [The Audacity of Hope, p. 274]

To be clear, Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian who attends the United Church of Christ in Chicago. Furthermore, the Indonesian school Obama attended in Jakarta is a public school that is not and never has been a Madrassa.

These malicious, irresponsible charges are precisely the kind of politics the American people have grown tired of, and that Senator Obama is trying to change by focusing on bringing people together to solve our common problems.

The senator’s staff attached a letter from religious leaders objecting to this attack on Mr. Obama.

Until I read some of the answers above, I didn’t know or care. Nor did it cross my mind. I look at candidates for their positions on the subjects that concern me. I don’t feel religion is relative.

Answer by American Pride

Barack Obama is a Christian and there is no proof whatsoever that he is a Muslim. His name is Muslim, but he was named by his Muslim father, and he did not get to choose his name. But you should not avoid voting for certain people based on what their religion is.
