Look for a pro-sumer video camera that has three sensors, usually called 3MOS or 3-CCD cameras

Panasonic, Sony, JVC and Canon all make them. One should fit your budget

This is only the tip of the iceberg. You will also need a fast computer (having a CPU like the Third Generation Intel 5i or 7i, at least 16 gb of RAM and a few 1 tb hard drives.

Don’t forget the video editing software. It may cost you around £775 (£290 if you are a student) for the kind of video editing power you will need to make short videos.

Just keep in mind that filmmakers are switching to digital technology.

Fuji announced in September that it will stop making motion picture film by March 2013.

Your budget truly limits you. I have no idea what you can buy in that price range. The Nikon D3200 is a little more and will give you a nice, cinematic look.

Tooniman – You don’t need a lot of money to get started as a filmmaker. The best “video” camera in your price range is not a traditional video camera – it is the Sony HX20V. This camera shoots incredibly sharp 1080/60p video and costs less than 300€. Here is what it can do:

HX9V (the HX20V’s discontinued older brother), “The Harbour”: http://vimeo.com/25088008

HX20V (plus a GoPro waterproof camera), “Destination Bali: Postcards from Indonesia”: http://vimeo.com/47250882

HX30V (an HX20V with wi-fi), “Amazon overflight”: http://vimeo.com/52335763

You can get a brand new HX20V for 289€ from Amazon (link below).

Hope this is helpful and Happy New Year.
